Physical Space

A physical-digital interface that allows people to control sounds and create melodies.

why?

Playing music is a skill that takes years to learn and master. Most people have dabbled in learning an instrument but gave up due to the time and effort it takes. My physical-digital interface is a controller that works to provide the feeling of playing an instrument to anyone who is able to use it.

what?

The result is a physical-digital interface, in the form of an installation that opens up users to the idea that sounds can be manipulated or created with the same feeling as live playing an instrument in a controlled environment.

how?

My instrument works in a controlled environment. It stems from my initial ideas to take what we know as the "sequencer" and make it feel like a playable instrument. It uses physical components to allow the user to feel as if they're building something. Nothing is more satisfying than the combination of tactile and auditory feedback, this is the same principle as pressing a piano key or strumming a guitar string for the first time.
